From the Zef Side to the Guggenheim

It's not every day that a zef band from South Africa makes it big in the Guggenheim...

If you were alive and well in 2010 it would have been hard to miss the internet/viral marketing/zef rap/rave phenomenon that is Die Antwoord.

The group took not only the local music scene by storm but the world, it seems. And their Zef Side music video by Sean Meterlerkamp was one of the winners of the worldwide “You Tube Play” video art competition recently.

Aimed at promoting and showcasing the work of innovative online video artists, the top 25 videos from emerging artists around the world were shown on a large screen in the Guggenheim museum.

Zef Side features slow-motion shots and deadpan interviews of Die Antwoord. Other winning videos included “Birds on the Wires” from Jarbas Agnelli of Sao Paulo, Braziland the brief “Seaweed”, showing a man stretching his arms, from London-based Remi Weekes and Luke White.
