Showcasing an innovative use of detailing in garments, Spilt Milk has matured into an elegant and easy-to-wear womenswear label.
The Cape Town-based clothing brand found its beginnings in 2004 and has since taken South Africa by storm, now supplying boutiques all around South Africa.
At Design Indaba Expo 2013, Spilt Milk launched their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection and transformed the events arena into a striking runway space. The inspiration for the collection is taken from birds and their flight patterns.
The song of a bird can wake up the spirit and produce a smile. It can give light to an otherwise uneventful moment and give colour and warmth to an ordinary winter’s day.
Previously known as a brand using soft neutral colours, Spilt Milk startled the audience with their use of bright colours, dark symbols and playful floral prints. Signature details such as pleating, draping, piping and rouching allowed for eye-catching textures and attention-grabbing geometrics.
Design Indaba Expo was good for marketing purposes. I had a good response from the public, says Alma van den Berg, owner of Spilt Milk.
Spilt Milk garments are produced locally with a strong focus on Proudly South African design. The brand is dedicated to contributing to the welfare of local industries and the South African economy.
