Soft integration

Bridle Road Residence in Cape Town has a lightness and classic elegance about it, while being sustainable.

Designed by Cape Town architectural studio Antonio Zaninovic, the Bridle Road Residence is a sizeable structure that seamlessly integrates with its natural environment at the base of Table Mountain.

The interiors of this single-family residence were designed by Lucien Rees of New York-based Rees Roberts + Partners, and the landscape by David Kelly of the same company.

The lightness, precision and scale of this house is reminiscent of a mixture of Japanese and Scandanavian style, combined with timeless elegance. Overlooking the Cape Town harbour, the picture windows work to create a sense of openness.

With an easy flow between interior and exterior spaces, the house and garden boast various sustainable solutions, including a self-cleaning outside pool, natural cross ventilation and the use of earth temperature as climatic moderator.

The Antonia Zaninovic studio is known for its ability to let the landscape drive the architecture. The house and the landscape design won an American Society of Landscape Architects 2010 Honour Award in the Residential Design Category.
