Push and Phul

You know you’ve got a winner when a chair is not only comfortable to sit on but also exceptionally beautiful to look at.

Indian designer Mann Singh’s prototype Phul Chair, is testament to Indian craftsmanship and proof that function and aesthetics can be bedfellows.

Phul, which means “flower”, is handmade using stainless steel. While this metal is usually used in industrial processes, Singh chose to do things differently to ensure that no two pieces are exactly alike.

The seat and back of the chair comprise intertwining leaf and twig motifs. The use of stainless steel also means that the chair is very durable, making it the ideal piece of garden furniture.

The Phul Chair was displayed at the Asia Now exhibition in Los Angeles recently.
