The second series of room-sized exhibitions at the Freeworld Design Centre in Cape Town was recently unveiled and can be seen until 31 July 2011.
Titled Openness to Explore, the exhibition presents the work of four top local creatives, with their fresh take on interiors.
Product designer Liam Mooney played with reflections and different textures of black to create a “black on black” pod. Featured in the pod is products from his new range, made to work in an interior setting. Mooney also worked with Quartz Carpet to create a custom-mix black floor covering.
For her second time designing a room-size exhibition at Freeworld, Tracy Lynch created a contemporary dressing room. The dressing room explores the decorative possibilities of artistically applied paint in a setting that provides a beautiful alternative to tiles.
Heritage colour and eclectic-but-classic interiors is what Neil Stemmet of Koncept brought to his pod design at Freeworld. Stemmet created a living room featuring antique and heirloom pieces mixed with high design items, reflecting his old-new amalgam and anti-décor philosophy.
Stylist Kerstin Eser created a clothing shop window display, which features bespoke garments "upcycled" from paint-splattered overalls into “pret-a-porter” gems, created by Christopher Strong. Eser's display takes some inspiration from Willow Smith's "whip my hair" music video and its paint splatter aesthetic. The pod will sport a new multicolour "Jack Splatt" treatment and a progressive retail display.
