Creating furniture that drives and promotes innovative design and master craftsmanship, the Western Cape Furniture Initiative (WCFI) is taking sustainable furniture design to new horizons.
In pursuit of establishing themselves as a unified industry representative in developing and growing the South African furniture industry, the WCFI is aiming to market a innovative furniture brand locally and internationally.
Following their success at the annual Proudly Capetonian Furniture Exhibition, the WCFI brought the results of a collaboration between local designers and manufacturers to Design Indaba Expo 2013.
Showcasing the work of up-and-coming furniture designers who took part in the WCFI’s JigSaw South African Furniture Design Competition, the furniture initiative highlighted its desire to create new jobs and have an economic impact on the local furniture sector. Through using new talent the WCFI not only invigorates local design but further establishes innovative and forward-thinking creations resulting from fresh thinking and flair.
As the name suggests, JigSaw denotes working together and synchronising cross-cultural design talents in South Africa, with the aim to nurture and promote South African design talent and match them with and challenge international competitors. At the Expo, the WCFI revealed that the competition is the ideal opportunity for new designers to facilitate their creative visions into well-made products that offer excellent commercial and social value.
