Better known as post-Afro dictator-dance act Gazelle, artist Xander Ferreira is extending his theatrical persona and fictional post-independence narratives into the gallery. His debut solo exhibition, The Status of Greatness, will manifest through staged photography, performance, installation, video and sculpture. Principally concerned with unpacking and actively coercing the mechanics of political and cultural celebrity through the mimicry of historical precedent, the work explores artifice, surface, image, ego, propaganda and myth with a whimsical flick of the wrist and a wry smile. The exhibition shows at the Whatiftheworld Gallery in Woodstock in Cape Town until 21 February. Website: www.whatiftheworld.com
