Unlocking the Truth

#FilmFestFridays presents "Unlocking the Truth", a short film about a heavy metal band started by two six-graders.

Unlocking the Truth members Malcolm Brickhouse and Jarad Dawkins, two sixth-grade metalheads from Flatbush, Brooklyn, are on a mission to rock your socks off.

The short film is part of the Avant/Guard Diaries series, an online interview magazine and global event series initiated by Mercedes-Benz in 2011.

This short documentary gives insight into how the band was formed, their inspirations and their daily lives. It is not atypical for Unlocking the Truth to practise for up to ten hours on weekends. They are so immersed in their music that they barely notice anything going on around them, including their parents, who usually have to force them to stop practising when it’s bedtime. While their classmates mostly listen to radio pop or rap, Malcolm and Jarad’s enthusiasm for metal was nurtured while watching generous amounts of WWE professional wrestling. The duo write songs about what is happening at their school, their feelings and even love songs.

The band has already written two albums, Madness and Paranoid, and auditioned for America’s Got Talent. Amazingly, they manage to keep up good grades in school. So watch out, US – two smart, young metalheads from Flatbush are coming to a town near you in the near future.
