Sipho Khwebula is a furniture designer and manufacturer based in Johannesburg. He launched his furniture design business, Khwebula Arts in January 2019.
Khwebula's journey in the furniture industry, started at Furntech in 2013, through a programme sponsored by the South African government to train future furniture makers. Through the programme, he attained level 4 accreditation which enabled him to set up and operate CNC machines using various CAD software.
His designs are inspired by African heritage and as a design studio, he thrives on pushing the design envelope as he explores what the continent has to offer. Khwebula's vision is to expose the richness of the African continent through exquisite design and quality manufactured pieces that can be appreciated by all.
His most successful project to date is his tripod bench. Shaped like a fidget spinner, the bench was designed for open reception areas. It is a 3-6 seater bench which can be extended into different shapes by adding more circles to it. It was originally designed as a drum that you can sit on but it was later connected into a tripod shaped bench to give it more functionality.
