Pascale Theron

Pascale Theron was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, but recently graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

Pascale Theron's designs draw from her own cultural background and are inspired by her own memories, knowledge and experiences from living in South Africa. She delves deeply into her research and enjoys connecting with people from different backgrounds, attempting to create a bridge between cultures.

She also enjoys working with soon-to-be-lost handmade crafts. She believes it is of utmost importance to design meaningful products that not only use intuition, but are also sensitive and genuine. She creates cultural products that fall somewhere between art and design.

She hopes to mobilise awareness, raise consciousness and focus attention through work that relates to concrete historical and social situations. The objects she designs are didactic. Theron uses them gives one access to a certain lessons (ethics, history, culture, nature).

She creates projects that give people the opportunity to learn something from them, giving the object a bigger life than it had before. She makes controversial conversational pieces that acknowledge the past, confront the present, and imagine a brighter future.
