Graphic design student Nicole Du Toit has spent time abroad at Central St Martins in London and the Pratt Institute in New York. Her company Detroitlee Design was inspired by her travelling experiences.
Based in Cape Town, the designer has worked with GAP, Athleta, Campari, Jeep and Virgin. She focuses on branding, packaging, advertising and editorial layout.
Du Toit’s most successful project to date is Period, a movement she created to educate young women on menstruation and to redesign government issued sanitary pads.
“The project aimed to eliminate the taboo of a period, and ultimately keeping young women in school; educated and confident,” she explains.
