Isabeau Joubert is a Cape Town-based texture designer and yarn bomber.
She is a graphic designer by training whp, after some eight years working in the industry, grew weary of the disconnect between designing something on a screen and creating a physical product.
Subsequently Joubert took up a variety of craft projects, most notably knitting and crocheting, and its trendy urban cousin, yarn bombing.
Joubert has been yarn bombing around the Mother City since 2010, having covered various landmarks, lampposts and the like in knitted cosies.
Her interest in handcrafts like knitting and crocheting allows her to explore and push the boundaries of various materials and (traditional) processes. As such, Joubert creates a variety of bespoke, once-off pieces like mats, vessels and lanmpshades.
Utility and sustainability are two important considerations for Joubert in her work, and she believes handcrafted objects allow the designer to be more cognisant of these factors.
