Abongile Gwele

Abongile Gwele is a young woman with a passion for the African continent, its endless possibilities and its diverse range of people and cultures.

This BTech Fine Art graduate has not only been accepted to Zurich University of the Arts to begin her Master's of Curation course in October 2016, but Abongile Gwele also strives to complete a PhD in African Cultural Studies and African Philosophy in future.

It is this love for the authentic yet unique sides of Africa and its fashions that led Gwele to found Apples and Oranges, her line of accessories made from African wax cloth. Each piece is handmade from a combination of African wax cloth and copper wire, and despite the broad variety of accessories available, each handmade item is truly one-of-a-kind.

Gwele's current range, Puppeedog, forms part of the Apples and Oranges label and is characterised by these African wax cloth creations.
