Ephemeral Pavilion

Aulets Arquitectes create a temporary pavilion from locally sourced stone and discarded wooden pallets for Futur Habitable

Aulets Arquitectes explores ephemeral, sustainable architecture with Futur Habitable, by creating a temporary pavilion that turns locally sourced stone and discarded wooden pallets into an understated statement about circular construction. The pavilion, situated in Pollença, Mallorca, was developed for the town’s annual fair and forms part of a three-year programme investigating more sustainable approaches to design and production. Its construction pairs massive blocks of natural stone with a lightweight timber canopy assembled from recycled wooden pallets. Positioned across a pedestrian pathway, the structure operates as an architectural threshold, framing a view towards a nearby church while connecting the surrounding garden with the built environment.

The design celebrates the origins of its materials, the rough stone blocks retain their natural colour variations and visible saw marks, creating substantial supports that resemble fragments of a quarry. Above, the organic timber slats of the reclaimed pallets form a canopy, offering a contrasting sense of lightness. The design aligns with Futur Habitable ambition to explore alternative material philosophies focusing on building with what is locally available, minimising processing and reconsidering the potential of everyday resources.

The project has been selected as a finalist for the 2026 FAD Awards in the Ephemeral Interventions category.
