CD: Mooi Besoedeling

For Zinkplaat's fourth album, designers Fanakalo.co.za created a scratch-off album cover.

Zinkplaat is an Afrikaans pop-rock-blues-fusion band from Stellenbosch. For their fourth album, designers Fanakalo.co.za make a play on the band’s name (which means corrugated iron) by covering the album cover with a layer of iron-coloured scratch-off ink, as well as a guitar pick to scratch the ink off with. With the album’s name, Mooi Besoedeling translating to “beautiful pollution”, this design intervention is open to interpretation. The grey layer can be seen to represent pollution itself or the act of scratching it off could be understood as “damaging” the packaging. Beneath the scratch-off ink, a colourful collage shows how the band’s diverse influences coming together to create something new.
