Wind to Watts, is designer Fabien Brun’s radical approach to decentralized energy infrastructure. The system is designed for off-grid and hard-to-reach environments where traditional wind turbines are impractical or impossible to install. The turbines employ a modular construction approach and are built from lightweight aluminium tubes and recyclable plastic tarpaulins. The design approach makes the turbines both portable and modular allowing it to be assembled on site without specialised equipment, opening up possibilities for temporary installations in remote landscapes, temporary sites, disaster zones or rural communities with limited infrastructure.
Alongside its ease of deployment, Brun has prioritised sustainable decommissioning of the turbines, aiming to reduce long-term waste by simplifying its end-of-life disassembly. The materials used were selected based on their recyclability. The aluminium and plastics used are 100% recyclable, a contrast to the conventional turbines that make use of concrete pouring and composite fiberglass which at the end of their lifespan are send to landfills.
Brun’s modular turbine system aims to address global energy accessibility in a sustainable, low-tech and rapidly deployable solution.
