The title refers to these “whispers,” symbolizing the connection to his ancestors and their spiritual influence.
Dyalvane's works are characterized by their vibrant, textural and intricate detailing, often incorporating references from the rich traditions of the Xhosa people. Each piece in this exhibition speaks to the themes of heritage, community, and spiritual reverence.
At the heart of Dyalvane’s process is a commitment to clay as a medium. His works embodying the stories, rituals, and history of his lineage. The "Oonomathotholo" exhibition offers viewers an immersive experience into the cultural narratives that have shaped Dyalvane’s personal and artistic journey. “My duty for now is to make sure the object is realized. And whatever else comes from this process of making for me. It’s about surrender and channelling. And allowing other people to access it.” -Andile Dyalvane
