Vertical Meadows, a London based company has set out to transform construction sites across the city into community biodiversity assets by integrating "vertical meadows" into building projects, aimed at boosting biodiversity and sustainability in urban environments. The vertical gardens feature native plant species, helping to create habitats for wildlife while also improving air quality.
The initiative is part of a larger effort to combat environmental challenges in cities, turning buildings into green spaces that enhance both human and ecological well-being. Vertical Meadows work alongside ecologists to create species-rich living walls that promote urban biodiversity and address the biodiversity crisis. The temporary installations help maintain the ecological continuity of the location during construction. The green walls are multifunctional adding aesthetic value with its visual screens, while also controlling dust and reducing noise by up to 15dB. This innovative solution turns a typical nuisance into something beneficial for communities, assisting to create a more harmonious relationship between construction projects and surrounding neighbourhoods.
