Dain Yoon is a visual artist based in Seoul, South Korea. She is a graduate of the Korea National University of Arts and has become well known for her bizarre body modification photography.
Yoon uses water colour paint and make up artistry to create surreal visual illusions without Photoshop. Her images range in complexity from simple use of shadow to create multiple characters creepily emerging from one face, to more elaborately staged scenes such as this tropical rainforest disguise.
Sometimes quirky and sometimes jarring, Yoon’s optical illusions test the conventions of what is considered beautiful. Her ephemeral paintings are inspired by everyday observations of people, as she describes her sources as “Nothing grand. Anything, even in very ordinary life, could be a great inspiration with different perspectives.”
