Snøhetta, in collaboration with ateljé Lyktan (Swedish Lighting company), developed the “Superdupertube” lamp— a modern, eco-friendly reinterpretation of the classic tube lighting.. The sustainable design features a biodegradable polymer made from PLA, a material derived from renewable sugarcane sources and strengthened with hemp fibers – reducing the carbon emissions by 50% compared to traditional aluminum-based lamps. This eco-friendly combination eliminates the need for fossil-based materials, significantly lowering the environmental impact.
Snøhetta’s design uses natural hemp pigments for coloring, giving each lamp a unique hue and producing a warm light quality. In addition the lamp design features an extruded profile optimized for easy assembly and disassembly, allowing components to slide into place without adhesives and with minimal screws. This construction not only simplifies the initial setup but also allows for easy upgrades or replacement of parts and the sustainable decommissioning of lamps – reinforcing the designs circularity.
