Private Public is a private collection of photographs by Gary van Wyk. The result of his obsession and love for photography, the photographs point to the diversity of subjects Van Wyk is able to photograph, being based in the Mother City.

The exhibition opens tonight, 6 July 2011, at the Photographers Gallery za in Cape Town with the opening address by filmmaker Oliver Hermanus.

Van Wyk explains that the title of the show is an important element, bringing the different aspects of his photography together. He says: “I photograph personal, private moments with family and friends and, of course, spend a lot of time exploring public places. They meet at some point. I struggle to stick with one particular subject because I'm fascinated by so many different things.”
