Design consortium A New Dawn (AND), comprised of RAU Architects, Tellart, DGMR, and Asanuma have revealed the winning design concept for the Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which features an anthropogenic sun, signifying hope for a resilient future through the development of clean energy.
Themed around ‘Common Ground: creating a new dawn together.’ The design highlights The Netherlands focus on developing innovative technologies for harnessing energy from water, reflecting their' long-standing expertise in water management and sustainable solutions.
The structure itself embodies a circular design approach, with all materials used in construction being designed for sustainable decommissioning and reuse post the Expo. Every component is registered in a global materials database, ensuring transparency and sustainability. This zero-waste approach aligns with the Netherlands’ commitment to a sustainable and emissions-free future.
More than just a building, the Netherlands Pavilion has been designed as an immersive experience, inviting visitors to engage with innovative climate solutions. By demonstrating how technology and sustainability can work together, it reinforces the importance of global collaboration in addressing climate challenges.
‘Making clean, renewable energy accessible to everyone is the key to a sustainable society and a sustainable economy. ‘The Russian war in Ukraine has put energy security higher on many countries’ agendas. I’m proud of the Dutch design, which showcases the innovative solutions that the Netherlands has to offer and introduces visitors to the possibilities of a zero-emission future driven by circularity.’Liesje Schreinemacher, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation
