Maarten Baas, who brought us the charred Smoke range, recently completed four new pieces for Parisian menswear brand Berluti, in collaboration with Carpenters Workshop Gallery. The pieces are a continuation of his Clay collection that was first launched in 2006 at the Milan Furniture Fair.
Unlike the first brightly coloured Clay collection, which is made from synthetic clay covering a metal armature inside and modelled by hand, the new pieces opt for a more subdued monochrome palette.
The functional artworks included a chaise lounge, valet, and two mirrors – classic pieces of furniture that were playfully reinterpreted in the hand-modelled technique.
The new work, which explores the intersections between art, functional design and fashion, was launched during Art Basel Miami at Berluti’s new Design District boutique.
