Lightness

Rika Herbst's porcelain designs are for contemplation and enjoyment, speaking to the viewer in a whisper.

From the Series

If the work of Rika Herbst and her Bohlokoa Studio is to speak, it should be in a whisper, says the Johannesburg-based designer.

Herbst explains that her porcelain designs are for contemplation and enjoyment, with nature as her main source of inspiration.

A new range of lights with porcelain, hand-carved shaded have been individually made with their own distinctive style.

Playing with light and shadows are a key feature of Herbst’s designs. She explains that the interplay of light is an integral part of each piece, with the aim to give each piece a contemporary feel while still enhancing the quality of the material.

See Bohlokoa Studio at Design Indaba Expo from 2 to 4 March 2012.
