Light for the nations

ILLUMInations is the title of the 54th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, curated by Bice Curiger.

Tomorrow, 4 June 2011, the 54th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale opens, under the curatorship of Bice Curiger.

Taking place at the Arsenale and Giardini venues and running until 27 November 2011, the title of show is ILLUMInations. The itinerary features 83 artists from around the world.

The show will also feature the work of 32 young artists, born after 1975, as well as 32 female artists. Four “parapavilions” were created to showcase some of the works with collaboration and mutual exchanges a key focus for Curiger.

Desire: Ideal Narratives in Contemporary South African Art is the title of the exhibition at the Pavilion of South Africa at the Biennale. Curated by Thembinjosi Goniwe, Desire features the work of Mary Sibande, Siemon Allen and Lyndi Sales.
