From planning to construction to inauguration, Brasilia, a group exhibition of vintage photographs celebrates the 50th anniversary of the capital of Brazil.
The exhibition runs until 27 November 2010 at the 1500 Gallery in New York and is curated by Brazilian photographer Murillo Meirelles.
In 1960 Brasilia replaced Rio de Janeiro as the capital of Brazil. The architectural, figurative and photojournalistic images in the exhibition highlight the ideals of Juscelino Kubitschek’s socialist government and its team of visionary urban planners, architects and landscape designers. Brasilia presents nine images showing the work of, among others, Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer and Roberto Burle Marx.
