Sir Paul Smith celebrates the 100th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner’s birth with an injection of his signature colours to iconic furniture pieces.
British fashion designer Smith has collaborated with renowned textile company Maharam and Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn on a limited edition collection. The collection stemmed from a desire to celebrate the life of Carl Hansen & Søn’s founder Hans J. Wegner.
As every item created by the Danish furniture brand reflects over 100 years of the company’s respect and passion for craftsmanship, Smith’s collaboration needed to stay in the lines of this history as well as reveal a contemporary and modern edge.
For the collection, Smith teamed up with Maharam to design two new textiles, the Big Stripes collection and the Stripes collection. These textiles were applied to the iconic Shell Chair and other furniture pieces from Carl Hansen & Søn. The bright and bold fabric adds a quirky and bold look to the furniture, while simultaneously infusing a contemporary burst of pattern and colour.
A presentation of the collection will take place in the Paul Smith Milan shop from 8 to 13 April during Salone del Mobile 2014.
