Tom Dixon’s British Steel exhibition at Mitterrand+Cramer, Switzerland, highlights the maverick designer’s latest explorations into the relationship between materiality and methods of manufacture. Exploring three different production means, he uses copper plating to repurpose his renowned Expanded Polystyrene Chair; flame cutting to create a series of unfeasibly heavyweight furniture; and casting to create an abstract expressionist range.
