Artist Philip Ross’s work explores humanity’s relationship with plants. While Roundabout is an autonomous garden system once plugged in, Ross raises the question of whether an astronaut armed with such a farm would stake their life on it in Mars. Further exploring this power relationship humans enact on nature, Junior Return is a closed system that keeps the enclosed plant in a static state – it does not grow, nor does it die.
