From the Series
Tom Dixon showcased a series of new products at this year’s Salone de Mobile and revealed his eye for detail and precision in craftsmanship.
British product designer Dixon’s unveiling of objects including furniture, lighting and accessories were all under the central theme of a gentleman’s club.
The Club collection sees the conventional Gentleman’s Club reworked into a contemporary version of the historic British members club – a modern day home-away-from-home cultivated haven where pleasure and work collide. Featuring a palette of colours, extraordinary lighting and tactile finishes, the collection ranges from classy cocktail shakers to astonishing lighting installations.
A misspent youth spent in the London warehouse club scene and a more recent series of experimental interiors designed for the new breed of private clubs are the reasons why we have chosen to reinvigorate the fabled British Members Club into a futuristic social environment, says Dixon.
New products include:
Grey Beat, an exercise in expressive minimalism, the instantly recognisable pendants are now re-coloured in grey with a precious internal silver plate, creating a warm, shimmering glow.
An ode to optical engineering, Flood boasts a strong profile and takes inspiration from the automotive industry’s technical mastery. Made from injection–moulded polymers, the result is a robust and highly reflective object.
The popular Beat collection inspired by the sculptural simplicity of traditional water vessels used in India has been extended with the inclusion of a table and floor lights.
A series of sharply upholstered silhouettes are revealed in the Pivot collection, which consist of a high-back chair, a low-back chair and a bar stool. Each piece is made with an internal metal frame, moulded foam upholstery and a rotating die-cast aluminium base.
The Y Table reveals a tactile tabletop made from durable polyurethane. It is available in two sizes and two different finishes – a plain black top or with an enamel insert, which adds a vibrant pop of colour.
The Club collection was unveiled at Salone del Mobile 2014 in Milan, Italy.
