Telling the story of a machine, a factory and people, Font’s Collage collection captures the product designing method and essence of an almost-forgotten era.
With the aim to preserve the craft tradition of a 150-year old company, Front has designed a table to accompany the furniture series Collage that communicates the history of old forms and methods used in furniture design by lifestyle brand Gemla.
Reshaping, redesigning and reusing was the starting point for the collection. Using tools and shapes first seen in the early 1900s, Front enhanced and complemented traditional furniture silhouettes to create elegantly modern pieces.
The result is a furniture collection that in itself is a collage of classic and contemporary furniture designs with an execution that is rooted in the long tradition of craftsmanship for which Gemla is known, says Front.
Although the series has its roots in the archives of the company, Front’s dynamic approach to furniture design sees the combination of new and old materials and features in order to create a contemporary collection for the modern user.
Collage was showcased at the Stockholm Furniture Fair from 5 to 9 February 2013.
