Complex natures at Miami 2011

Ayala Serfaty's creations at Design Miami explore the use of ancient materials in contemporary design.

Israeli artist and designer Ayala Serfaty’s light sculpture and chair design is an interpretation of nature’s complex structures.

The "Memory, 2011" light and "Rapa Chair III" can be seen at Design Miami from 30 November to 4 December 2011.

The works are presented with the Cristina Grajales Gallery and highlight Serfaty’s exploration of ancient materials, as merged with contemporary design.

Memory, 2011 exposes the delicacy and behavioural nuances of the object by manipulating glass and polymer.

Rapa explores the possibilities of using hand-made felt in the design of contemporary furniture. The layered wool, silk and linen fibres create a dense and intricate skin that provokes the viewers’ sensibilities.
