The Colour of London

Domenic Lippa and LDF unveil the festival’s visual identity for 2024

A highlight on the creative and cultural calendar, London Design Festival returns with its 22nd edition. A partnership between spanning seventeen years, Pentagram’s Domenic Lippa reprises the role of creative director of the renowned festival. Speaking on the partnership, Domenic explains: "Every year we develop a graphic theme to reflect the ambitions and vision of the Festival. We work closely with the festival directors John Sorrell and Ben Evann”.

This year’s festival identity is based on the concept of ‘duality’ and features a combination of two different layered typefaces. The colour palette continues the tradition of LDF’s signature red, white and black which is synonymous of the city of London. “I’ve always believed duality to be an interesting recurring theme within design” Domenic Lippa explains. “It can allow any design to have a tension within it, thus ensuring a level of surprise and engagement.

“We started exploring this through contrasting elements—imagery, words and colours—eventually settling on using two quite different typefaces to express the natural diversity that exists within design.”

“The aim of the campaigns we have designed for LDF is to create a powerful shorthand for anyone to see and connect with the festival immediately,” Domenic explains.

The London Design Festival runs from 14–22 September 2024
