The Ocean Clean-up is making a dent in the 5 trillion pieces of plastic that litter the earth's oceans. The NPO hopes to reduce the size of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch by 50% within the next five years.
Their passive design has been engineered to work on the open seas and makes use of natural forces like wind and wave motion, coupled with a sea anchor.
“The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, is developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. When we have achieved our goal of a 90% reduction in ocean plastic, our project is finished and our work will be done.”
