Dubbed Casa Italia, the renewed Embassy becomes a refined showcase of Italian creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural diplomacy. The 1868 building now balances its historic architectural character with a bold, contemporary expression of Italian design.
Inspired by Luigi Caccia Dominioni’s Milanese theatre interiors, the lobby sets the tone with a sculptural grandeur. A custom mosaic floor by Formafantasma and Fantini anchors the space while opposite a pair of bespoke lifts designed by Martino Gamper, framed in geometric bands of blue and yellow, introduce flow and movement.
Throughout the Embassy every detail honours Italian craftsmanship. Fine stone by Marsotto, Murano glass chandeliers and Alpi panels by Piero Lissoni sit alongside custom CC-Tapis rugs whose motifs nod to Roman baths, Borsani villas, and Carlo Scarpa’s iconic Olivetti showroom. An Antony Gormley sculpture in the ambassador’s office underscores the Embassy’s role as a cultural bridge between the UK and Italy.
Casa Italia stands as a diplomatic space that doubles as a living exhibition of contemporary Italian design.
