With a looming world energy crisis, any development that employs forms of renewable energy is worth recognition. The world’s largest offshore wind farm recently opened off the coast of Kent in the UK.
The 100 turbine wind farm lies 12km off Foreness Point in Thanet andis able to provide enough electricity for 240 000 homes. The project is managed by Swedish energy company Vattenfall.
Construction work on the wind farm started two years ago with costs amounting to about £780 million. The wind farm covers an area of 35 square kilometers.
The wind farm will expand the UK’s ability to generate wind power by 30% and up the number of wind farms in the country to 250.
