“Collective housing for many birds and one person” is how Japanese designer Nendo describes his new tree house, appropriately called “bird apartment”.
The Bird Apartment is a tree house designed for the Momofuku Ando Center, a facility in Japan that is committed to promoting and increasing access to activities in nature.
Located in a forest in Japan’s mountainous Nagano Prefecture, the Bird Apartment can accommodate both birds and people.
On the one side of the tree house there are multiple entrances and space to house 78 nests, while the other side of it has one entrance for a single person. The person can then peers into the birds’ nests from the “human” side of the tree house.
