Almost invisible at Milan2011

Only the backrest and arm rests of Nendo’s Transparent Chair appear to be visible, but the seat is still inviting.

Japanese studio Nendo’s Transparent Chair was showcased at Galleria Jannone at the Milan Furniture Fair last week.

Though only the backrest and arm rests of the seat are apparent, the Transparent Chair is fully functioning and wrapped in polyurethane film. This transparent material is more commonly used as a packaging material for precision instruments and objects susceptible to vibration and shock.

With the Transparent Chair Nendo wanted viewers to experience a moment of exclamation while also presenting them with something unexpected, though pleasant. The chair provides invisible support and carries the weight of the sitter, creating a feeling of floating in space.
