My Heritage, My Inheritance

This short film captures the deeper cultural meaning behind South African knitwear brand, MaXhosa by Laduma designed and founded by Laduma Ngxokolo.

In his directorial debut TAKEZITO seeks to capture MaXhosa by Laduma's vision to preserve Xhosa culture through contemporary fashion in this short fashion film.

TAKEZITO saw Laduma Ngxokolo speak at the 2011 Design Indaba Conference where he was "blown away" by his Pecha Kucha talk. In an interview with 10and5.com he explains: "The clarity of his vision and the precision of his execution made me really proud to be South African, and of my own Xhosa roots. He really inspired me that day."

In 2013 a chance encounter with Ngxokolo at an art gallery led to the conception and collaboration on this fashion film project, which sought to reveal the deeper meaning and cultural relevance of MaXhosa by Laduma.

In same interview Ngxokolo says: "I want them to see it as an ideology that preserves the Xhosa heritage for the future. Ultimately I want people to say 'this is culture made by my people that is modern and classic,' so they treasure my items."
