Joe Saavedra on robots, alcohol and citizen sensors

The Creative Technologist from Parsons The New School for Design uses physical computing to empower people to learn about their environment on their own terms.

Part of the Pecha Kucha team of design graduates at Design Indaba Conference 2011, Joe Saavedra talks about his work in physical computing. This Creative Technologist from Parsons New School for Design uses this futuristic design medium to empower people to learn about their environment on their own terms.

A passive interaction is better than an active interaction, because they are less biased and have a wider data set, and much more meaningful extrapolations can be made, says Saavedra

He has worked on projects such as Citizen Sensor – an open-source, wearable pollution monitoring and data collection system – and SOBEaR, which combines two of Saavedra's favourite things, robots and alcohol.
