Iconic Houses

A two-minute animated tour of some of the 20th century’s most recognisable and well-loved buildings.

“Iconic Houses” is the work of the multi-talented Milanese designer Matteo Muci, who was responsible for the illustration, animation and music. Muci is a product and graphic designer whose elegant, streamlined style is the result of his “striving to find the right balance between functionality and aesthetics”.

The charmingly simplistic animation style Muci uses here is perfectly suited to the Modernist houses he depicts: the houses are ‘built’ as a series of geometric shapes that come together to resemble abstract compositions. The Rietveld Schröder House by Gerrit Rietveld looks like a grid painting by his De Stijl compatriot Piet Mondrian.

Lovers of all things Modernist will be happy to know that Muci (who also has a talent for canny marketing) has made his house illustrations available for free download as phone, tablet or desktop wallpaper – all you need to do is tweet about it here
