Papillon Belle

Papillon Belle is a range of jewellery made from real butterfly wings, designed by Cape Town-based graphic designer and illustrator Audrey Botha.

The unique range of jewellery is made from sustainably farmed exotic butterfly wings, which are set in a sterling silver frame. Audrey was inspired to create these one-of-a-kind pieces when she inherited two antique butterfly wing brooches from her grandmother. Buyers are able to choose between pendants or vintage rings covered by a glass dome.

The butterflies are sourced from an organisation that manages conservation programs all over the world. Agricultural development has caused the natural habitat of a lot of butterfly species to become threatened, and their populations started dwindling. Conservation programs were therefore started to enable farmers from third world countries to keep the rain forests on their land intact, while still providing a livelihood that paid better than mono-cultural crops.
