Martinus van Tee

Martinus van Tee is an illustrator and caricaturist living in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

Terrapin and Toad is an ongoing series of illustrations, paintings and prints by Martinus van Tee, an illustrator and caricaturist living in Stellenbosch. His work is inspired and influenced by fairy tales, folk music, and the people and landscapes of the Western Cape.

He occasionally work digitally, but his true love is working with pencil, Gouache and watercolours on paper. He has a particular affinity for drawing alligators and crocodiles. When he isn't illustrating strange and whimsical creatures, van Tee dabbles in animation and voice-over work.

He has been involved in various illustration projects for Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Heinemann,and The Red Cross. He has also worked on the mascot design for Sure Travel (Bala the Wild Dog) and character designs for Mugg and Bean's kids activity pages. Van Tee's caricatures and illustrations have also been used by companies like Standard Bank, Absa, Microsoft, Samsung, SAB, Sanlam, Old Mutual, Porsche, Mini, Gibb and Protea Hotels.
