Kaross

Kaross is an embroidery company creating cushion covers, tableware, art pieces, wall hangings, furniture and fashion accessories from embroidered textiles.

Kaross was started in 1989 with Irma van Rooyen, a visual artist, as creative director and founder and Janine Pretorius as co-owner. Kaross creates cushion covers, tableware, art pieces, wall hangings, furniture and fashion accessories from hand embroidered textiles. Every item is 100% hand crafted. Kaross currently provides employment to more than 800 embroiderers, mostly Shangaan women, living in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The studio has a large production capacity, enabling Kaross to supply to large and small retailers alike, whilst at the same time being able to ensure every piece is of high quality and expertly designed.

Kaross currently exports to Europe, USA, UK, Canada and Australia, amongst others. Kaross exhibited at New York Now in August 2013, as part of an exhibition put together by Source and featured in the Accent on Design section.
