South African Bertus Basson is the chef and owner of Overture Restaurant, a fine-dining restaurant, situated on Hidden Valley Wines - a wine farm anchored into the side of the Stellenbosch hills. Since its opening, the restaurant has been placed in the Top Ten ofthe Eat Out Awards for six years running.
Overture Restaurant has also been awarded three stars in the Roussouw’s Restaurant Guide for four years running.
Basson got an early career start in food. Cooking since the age of 17, he moved to England at the age of 19 to work at the Michelin-starred restaurant, Chez Bruce.
He is also a judge in the popular South African reality cooking show, The Ultimate Braai Master, aired in 22 countries. A third season of the show is set for production in mid-2014.
