Never one to be content with simply launching a new product, Tom Dixon is a master at showcasing his innovative manufacturing processes. He installed a metal-pressing machine in collaboration with international machine giant Trumpf to stamp out chairs, lamps and other products during Milan Design Week 2012. Now he is teaming up with Trumpf to highlight manufacturing processes again with the launch of his new London scent at Maison & Objet in Paris this September.

The perfume is described as a blend of red brick, crocuses and nettles, recalling the fragrance of London's parks. At Maison & Objet, Dixon will install The Factory, where visitors will be able to witness a variety of his limited-edition scented accessories being created. The installation will feature a live on-site production component, a packaging unit and a pop-up shop.

The idea is not only to invade Paris with our London scent, The Factory also demonstrates the speed at which we can now create new ideas and sell in the modern age, says Dixon, the current Maison & Objet Designer of the Year.

Capturing the making process from start to finish, The Factory will invite visitors to view how raw ingredients are extracted to produce Dixon’s iconic London scent. After creation, the  oil will be bottled, boxed and placed on the shelves of the shop.

The Factory will also produce a selection of diffusers and candles inspired by the designer's obsession with great British manufacturing.
