Finally, a space dedicated to showcasing Tom Dixon’s extraordinary items for everyday use. The Tom Dixon Shop will launch during the London Design Festival, which starts on 20 September 2010. The Tom Dixon Shop, which will sell the full Tom Dixon range of lighting and furniture, will be in a converted Wharf Building at Portobello Dock.
The Tom Dixon Etch collection will be making its first UK appearance at the shop. Etch is a digitally manufactured brass pendant light and candle holder inspired by the logic of pure maths. The industrial processes used in the design of the Etch products allows detailed patterns to be cut directly onto the metal. For the duration of the London Design Festival, Etch will be sold from the assembly line as part of a live Flash Factory inside the Tom Dixon Shop.
The Scoop chair is another Tom Dixon product that will be launched at the Shop. Scoop holds the sitter in an enclosed space, made possible by upholstery that has been injection-moulded into a hard foam shell. The Peg Coat Stand, a modular totem for hats, bags and coats, and Jack, the “sitting, stacking, lighting thing”, will also be available in the Tom Dixon Shop. A range of vases, vessels and door knobs will also be sold in the Shop.
To ensure that the Tom Dixon Shop remains a dynamic and inspired space, Dixon has handpicked designers and brands from around the world to show their work in this space. The chosen designs will alternate quarterly to avoid it becoming staid. Piet Hein Eek is among the first group of designers who will be showcasing their work. New Caribbean Design, Areaware, Ateliers Ruby, Arne Jacobsen, Fine Cell Work and Copenhagen Lab are some of the other brands that will be shown in the Tom Dixon Shop.
