DESIGN INDABA FASHION
Design Indaba fashion is upsizing
Design Indaba Expo (February 23 to 26, 2008) is launching a dedicated fashion hall in 2008, following the success of its fashion area in 2007. With four days of uninterrupted fashion, animation and film showings playing host to the more than 20 000 Expo visitors, the demand for expansion was clear. The new fashion hall in 2008 will continue to offer the customised Design Indaba approach to fashion and aims to create a convivial atmosphere for Expo visitors. Comprehensively decked out with lighting, sound and infrastructure equipment and support, the arena is set to glam from dawn to dusk.
In the evening, the hall is available to hire for relevant social gatherings such as balls, dinners, film evenings or cocktail presentations.

The film showcase is open to viewing by all Design Indaba Expo visitors. Film screenings may not exceed 12 minutes in length and there are no costs associated. If you would like to submit your short film, music video or animation for possible screening at the 2008 Design Indaba Expo, please contact Beverley Cupido on (021) 465 9966 or mail diexpo@interactiveafrica.com.
DESIGN INDABA EXPO EMERGING CREATIVES PROGRAM
The Emerging Creatives Program runs concurrently with the Design Indaba Expo. This program was initiated to identify students or emerging creatives that show great design potential. Exposure at the Design Indaba Expo gives these participants a public platform where they have access and exposure to local and international media, agencies and companies. The selected participants are invited to exhibit at the Design Indaba Expo during the four-day event. Students are also invited to attend the first day of the Young Designers Simulcast.
For more information about the selection process and participation please contact Beverley Cupido on (021) 465 9966.

INDEX

|
On August 24, 2007, the winning designs in the five INDEX: categories were announced, receiving the world's biggest design award of 100 000 € each. Two South African designers were among the 2007 winners. Elon Musk was part of the group that won the PLAY category for the Tesla Roadster, a 100% electric vehicle and 0-to-60 mph acceleration (read about in the new issue of Design Indaba magazine).
The second South African, Graeme Davies was among the industrial designers who won the WORK category for the Tongue Sucker. This device allows untrained bystanders at the scene of an accident to immediately open the airway of unconscious victims, preventing death or brain damage due to the tongue blocking the airway passage.
