Love, language, lettering

Posted on August 20th 2010

Richard Hart's latest solo exhibition intimately engages the viewer with his passion for words, type and creativity.

Richard Hart’s graphic design career has been characterised by his love of lettering, words and language. With his third solo exhibition, Lingua Franca, Hart explores his craft and passion in a context outside of graphic design.

Lingua Franca, which is on at the KZNSA Gallery in Durban until 5 September 2010, sees Hart freeing his work from the need to have mass, communicative appeal. The work uses a variety of materials and techniques, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, assemblage and installation. Lingua Franca creates a world of words that range from provocative and funny to the absurd.
