Spiral Dynamics, as presented by Diane Salters and Peter Willis, is at best a model for explaining the evolution of human consciousness and at worst yet another model saying there are x amount of people in the world. Initially I was very sceptical – “esoteric is a piece of knowledge that only applies to a niche group” kept running through my mind.
However, as opposed to Mazlow’s Hierarchy of needs that stipulates an objective result, Spiral Dynamics proposes a more history-driven and emergent result. The categories are always present, and dynamically interacting in both an individual and on a societal level. One can go completely microscopic and macroscopic with it... Really should be a fractal – spirals don’t have enough dimensions.
Maybe I’ll explain more later, but Wendy Oldfield’s just started playing. But overall, a sweet little model to play with. And like all models, unfalsifiable.
Directly though, it did answer my question from an earlier post as to whether I was in the same dimension as the other Freewheelers. The answer – there are many dimensions at play here and I just wonder (sic) through all of them.
